Accomplishments
Alley on Main
The Alley on Main project was a transformative collaboration between Main Street Atmore and the City of Atmore that turned a long-neglected downtown alleyway into a vibrant, inviting public space and cherished landmark.
Building on years of strong partnership, These two entities joined forces following the city’s designation as an Arts & Entertainment District, and through a mix of public investment, grants and in-kind contributions, this revitalized space encompasses brickwork restoration, enhanced lighting, colorful umbrella installations, seating, birdhouses, trees, pollinator-friendly landscaping and even interactive murals.
Better Events, Better Access
New facilities will enhance comfort and accessibility for visitors during community events held in downtown Atmore. The restroom trailer was made possible through generous support from Gulf Coast RC&D and funds raised during the Celebrity Waiter event. Their contributions, along with the dedication of the Main Street Atmore Board, helped turn this idea into reality. The trailer will be available during Main Street Atmore events and other community gatherings, helping ensure that accessibility and convenience remain top priorities.
Atmore Letters Installation & Main Street Branding Initiative
In 2025, Main Street Atmore was awarded funding to support our Marketing Campaign, a strategic initiative focused on increasing brand recognition and reinforcing downtown Atmore’s identity as a vibrant Main Street community. One of the most visible outcomes of this investment was the installation of the Atmore Letters, a bold, permanent placemaking feature located in the heart of the Main Street District.
The Atmore Letters serve as a powerful visual statement, clearly identifying downtown Atmore as a Main Street community while creating a sense of place for residents and visitors alike. This project directly addressed a long-standing challenge: while Main Street Atmore has led impactful projects such as Boxcar Willie, the Butterfly Garden, and the Alley on Main Street, our role was not always easily recognized by the public. The Atmore Letters now provide a clear, branded landmark that sparks curiosity, conversation, and pride in our downtown.
Beyond aesthetics, the Atmore Letters support economic development by encouraging foot traffic, social media engagement, and tourism. Visitors frequently use the installation as a photo opportunity, organically promoting downtown businesses and reinforcing Atmore’s identity as a destination. The project strengthens Main Street Atmore’s brand, increases awareness of our mission, and supports business retention and recruitment within the District.
This accomplishment reflects our ongoing commitment to excellence, placemaking, and community-driven revitalization—ensuring that the impact of Main Street Atmore’s work is both seen and celebrated.
