Throwback Thursday: Atmore, home of the first female football player.

Luverne Wise Albert was named the first female football player to score in 1939 and in 1940. She attended Escambia County High School and tried out for the football team. Coach Edington decided to make Albert his newest kicker. People came from as far as New Orleans to watch her kick at the football games.
